My Thanksgiving Burden
Tis a day to give thanks
For the love and life we hold,
For the freedom our country grants,
And for the family and friends that surround us.
Tis a day to be grateful
For all you've received—
This year, last year, and in every year to come—
And for the great blessings life has offered.
Tis a day to remember
All the loved ones who stand by you—
Your friends, your family,
Even your co-workers,
And everyone in between.
But this year, for me, isn’t a year of thanks.
This year is a year of burden—
The burden of homelessness,
The burden of hunger,
The burden of feeling lost and alone.
This year has brought nothing but heartache,
Heartache and countless disappointments.
From the loss of loved ones
To the despair of having no home.
This year, my Thanksgiving is a burden.
And my Thanksgiving burden is me.
